Ms. Louise Adkins Tillery Ward

On June 23, 2022, Louise T Ward received her wings and went to walk with the Angels. Louise was born in Landrum, South Carolina on January 8, 1932. She was the daughter of the late Roy and Queenie Adkins. She attended Lyles-Crouch Elementary School and joined Mt. Jezreel Baptist Church at the age of 12 to serve the Lord. Louise went on to attend and graduate from Parker Gray High school. Louise’s passion for cosmetology guided her to Macos Cosmetology School, where she graduated. That accomplishment ultimately led her to a career in the beauty professional arena as a professional hair stylist in Alexandria, VA. Louise always said, “What I love about being a professional stylist is the creativeness and the fact that it brings together all different walks of awesome women”. Not only was she a professional hair stylist she was a “Fashionista” who always had that little extra going on in the outfit. She had a style all her own. Louise always said, “remember whatever you wear should reflect the real you, your personality, your character, your style and who you are as an awesome individual”. Louise continued her passion as a hair stylist, owning her own hair salon called Queenie’s named after her mother. She also managed several other salons with different business partners. Louise moved to Lorton, VA and joined Bethlehem Baptist Church in 1987. As a member of Bethlehem Baptist, Louise served faithfully on the Welcoming Life Ministry, Usher Ministry, and Willing Workers Ministry. Louise loved being in the company of others and helping others no matter what they needed; she was there for them, a listening ear or giving a free hair “do”. She had a considerate, unselfish, loving heart and gave so much of herself to her family and friends. She was a blessing to many, helping them along their journey when they needed comfort, kindness, and understanding. She opened her heart and lightened so many heavy loads, for that, we all have been beyond blessed. Louise continued as a professional hair stylist until she retired in 2000 and moved to Georgia to live with her daughter and grandchildren. Her strong faith in the Lord, led her to join Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Lawrenceville, GA., where she served faithfully on the Pastor’s Aid Ministry, Ushers Ministry, Seniors Ministry, and Cloths Ministry. Although Louise loved being with her daughter and grandchildren, she was missing her life in Alexandria, her friends, and the Bethlehem Baptist Church family. Louise moved back to Alexandria VA in 2015, where she continued her residency until God called her home. Louise was preceded in death by her brother Donald Adkins, her sister Bernice Smith, and her niece Brenda L. Scruggs. Left to rejoice in her memory are her children Michael F Tillery, Linda (Richard) Harley, and Mark K. Ward; grandchildren, Tyrone M. Diggs, Michael Tillery Jr. and Caitlin Ward; great grandchildren, Savannah J Diggs, Tai R Diggs, and Michael F Tillery III; great great grandchild, Kairo E Williams; niece, Donna (Daniel) Keah; nephews, Derrick Adkins, Mark Adkins, and James (Rose) Smith; great nephews, Richard Scruggs, and Dominique Reeves; great nieces, Crystal Kilpatrick, and LaToya Scruggs; great great nieces, Tashira Roberts, Mae Smith, and Khori Reeves; great great nephews, Richard Monteau, and Khamari Reeves; special sisters, and daughters, Frances Cook, Mary Robinson, Betty Jackson, Emma Britain, Deloris Wallace, Denise Huffman, Creola Smith, Toni Ragland, Karen Bass, Linda Young, Hope Mickelson, and a multitude of family, friends, and acquaintances. Louise will be greatly missed.
