Rodney Nelson Jr. Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

On April 5, 1997, at the INOVA Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Virginia, God blessed Tranita Randolph and Rodney Nelson with an awesome gift. They named him Rodney Keith Nelson, Jr. This precious gift made his transition from this life to life everlasting on Wednesday, January 14, 2015, at his residence surrounded by his loving family and friends. Rodney, aka, "Squirt" or "SugaPimp" began his educational journey in Charlotte, North Carolina. There he attended the Metro School. After relocating to Alexandria, Virginia he enrolled in The Key Center in Fairfax County, Virginia and on January 9, 2015 he graduated from the T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia. In Alexandria, Rodney attended the Ebenezer Baptist Church. He enjoyed service and always made his presence known! He was dedicated to God and welcomed into the Ebenezer Church family on December 31, 2014 by Rev. Albert P. Jackson. This sacred event was witnessed by Minister Becky Mays Jenkins, Deacon Ronald Jewell and Deaconess Adrianne Jewell as well as his Mom, TraShawn (sister) and Keisha (caregiver). Rodney was a character, charmer and snazzy dresser. His watch and tennis shoe collection was top of the line. He never stepped out unless he was "GQ" from head to toe!! He loved music --- especially Beyonce!! Rodney and his sidekick, Radio Roc were inseparable. They brought much joy and sometimes chaos to the entire family. The gospel song, "For Every Mountain" epitomizes Rodney's life. For God brought him over every mountain that man said he would not be able to climb. He is a testimony of how great our God is. He reminded us that no matter your situation or circumstance you can still have joy, peace and experience the love of God. There are no words to express how much we will miss his physical presence but we know he is with the Father and having a wonderful family reunion with his brother Rodell (Radio Roc), his Nauna and Grandaddy. He leaves to honor and cherish his memory; his loving and devoted Mother, Tranita Randolph; two sisters, Tranisce Armstrong (Devon) and TraShawn Randolph; two nieces, Tranae and Trinity; two nephews, Aidan and Jaxsen; one aunt, Raeshawn Randolph; one uncle, Leonard Randolph, III; one great aunt, Gwendolyn Black; two great uncles, Permus Hall, Jr. and Kerry Black and three caregivers, Keisha Carrington, Lamika Davis and Keisha Sanders. He was preceded in death by his brother, Rodell Nelson and his grandparents, Corliss Hogan and Leonard Randolph.
