September 18, 1952 “a STARR was born”, one of Dennis Starr’s many famous sayings. Birthed in Clover South Carolina to the late Mary Jane Wesley and David Meeks, Dennis departed life and gained his wings on June 6, 2022, in Alexandria, Virginia. Dennis moved to Virginia in his younger years where he attended Alexandria Public Schools. He graduated as a valedictorian and received a certificate, specializing in baking. These were two accomplishments that Dennis Starr often bragged and boasted about, making himself and his family extremely proud! Dennis had an immeasurable and unconditional love for his family and friends he held close to heart. He was and remains well known in his community, always making his first impression impactful and rememberable by just being himself. He was a God-fearing man and made the decision to get baptized and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at Antioch Church of Christ in Alexandria, Virginia. Throughout his life he worked at many jobs such as Robinson Terminal, Home Depot, where he was recognized as Team Lead and Cherokee Wholesales where he became the Supervisor. Dennis was one of the best ping-pong players around, this was his favorite sport. He also had a love for baking and playing poker and cards. He enjoyed listening to oldies and spending time with his family. Although Dennis birthed no children of his own there was no doubt in his mind that each and every niece and nephew were his babies. A perfect day for Dennis was spending quality time with his family and sharing stories of when he was younger. Along with those stories Dennis would leave you with his personal famous sayings to remember him by, like: “Give me a hamma so I can hit this bamma!” “Will goodbye help ya?” “What’s up youngin’!” “I don’t need an umbrella because I walk between the raindrops.” “Pat and Turner. Pat your feet and turn the corner.” He was always calling someone “Shawty!” Dennis was a slick talker and was given the nickname SLICK when he was very young. He had a charming personality and was a very cool, well-groomed and well-dressed man. Dennis was known for always wearing a hat and an earring in his ear. His mother Mary Jane Wesley and father David Meeks. His brother Napoleon, Aunts Ida, Louise, Linda Minnie Shirley, and Ellen; and Uncles Joe, Jimmy, Frank, Donald and Sherman Starr and Buck Oliver preceded him in death. He leaves behind his sister Brenda Clark (Edward), Paul Wesley, Laverne Johnson, Sylvia Wilson (Chester), Roger Wesley (Faye), Tina Wesley (Fred) and Calvin Wesley. Aunt Cora-Lee Frye (Danny), Uncle’s Willie Starr, Larry Starr (Patricia), Carl Starr, significant other, Claudette McBride, cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of other family members and friends to cherish his memories.
