Nancy Elaine Williams

God called our dearly beloved Nancy Elaine Williams to eternal rest on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at Doctors Hospital in Lanham, Maryland. Nancy was born on September 27, 1956, at Alexandria Hospital in Alexandria, Virginia to the late Willie and Joyce Sowell. Nancy grew up on Quander Road in the Spring Bank Community of Fairfax County, Virginia. She was the eldest sibling of three brothers (Douglas “Ducky”, John “Plum” and Leonard “Lenny”. She attended Fairfax County Public Schools and graduated from Edison High School in the mid 1970’s. For a number of years, she was raised in the home of her late grandparents, George and Pearl along with her cousins Delores “Sweetie”, Sherman “Ernie” and George “Boo” who also resided with the grandparents. It was at Granddaddy’s and Grandma’s where she developed a special bond with Sweetie. Not only as a cousin, but also as an inseparable friend until Sweetie’s untimely passing. Now they are reunited talking about old times, cruises and the casino. After the passing of her parents some 30 years ago, Nancy was not only the big sister but also became the glue that kept her brothers together all the way until her last breath. She cared for her nieces and nephews and ensured that they knew “Aunt Nancy” loved them and would do anything for them. In the weeks preceding her death, she enjoyed one last cookout with her brothers at her home enjoying their company, food and conversation. Timmy, her pride and joy of 43 years will deeply miss his mother. She would climb mountains for him for anything desired or wanted, as her only child. Those spur of the moment trips to the casino and those trips to the country down south for country sausage will never be the same. Up until her last breath, he and his wife Toya attended to her needs and granted her every wish. Even now to his final good-bye, he continues to grant her wishes. The love for her grandkids, Lil Timmy, Elijah and Jada came second to none. Nancy was employed for more than 32 years by the U.S. Department of State. During her tenure, she was a passport processor, front office clerk and lastly, a passport fraud clerk. Around the office, it has been said that if you needed training, pictures or collard greens, “go and see Nancy”. Over the years, Nancy fostered many relationships within and outsideof the Passport Agency. However, no relationship has matched “The Divas”, which consisted of Nancy, Wanda and Sherice. If you saw one, the other two were not far behind. This friendship spawned a list of lifelong memories that will be cherished forever. Nancy’s hobbies were going on cruises, bargain shopping, going to the casino and most of all enjoying life with family and friends. If there is anything you could say about Nancy, it would be that she cared for anyone that needed help or assistance. If she could make a way, she would. If there was a possibility for her to stay with us longer, she would have tried. Her heart may have given out on her, but her soul and spirit are still left here with all of us. Nancy was proceeded in death by her parents Willie “Bill” and Joyce; maternal grandparents, George and Pearl Williams; paternal grandparents, Thomas and Alice Sowell. She leaves to cherish her memory her only son, Timothy (Latoya); step-son, Stevie Glover; step-daughter, Kendra Glover; three grandchildren, Timothy Jr., Elijah and Jada; three brothers, Douglas Sowell (Brenda), John Sowell, Leonard Sowell (Paula); one aunt, Mary Jenkins of Chesterfield, SC; four uncles, Joseph Williams, Walter Sowell, James Sowell, Lee Sowell; a special cousin/sister, Mary Mundy “Dumb-Dumb”; two special friends; Teddy Glover, Violet “Vi” Woodland and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
