Mrs. Clarice Jones Chandler

Mother and nurturer to all, Clarice Jones Chandler, affectionately known as “Ricee,” touched countless lives and was a blessing to everyone she encountered. On December 10, 2025, at the age of 76, Ricee was called home to eternal glory, surrounded by her loving children, nieces, and two dear and beloved friends. Clarice Jones was united in holy matrimony to the late Austin “Buck” Chandler on May 11, 1968. From this union, four children were born: Austin Jr., Stephanie, Erick, and Ericka. Ricee was deeply devoted not only to her own children, but also to others in need of care, guidance, and a place to call home. She had a heart for raising and nurturing all who crossed her path. Ricee was the seventh of ten children, born to Mildred “Sissy” Jones and Charles “Nink” Jones, Sr., and was born and raised in Alexandria City. She adored her parents and shared a close, loving bond with all of her siblings. She attended Parker-Gray School in Alexandria and later transitioned to the newly integrated T.C. Williams High School. After completing her education, Ricee pursued her goal of working for the Federal Government. In 1968, she began her career as a Clerk Typist with the General Services Administration (GSA). Through dedication, perseverance, and hard work, she earned a degree in Business Administration and rose through the ranks to become a Senior Contract Specialist, managing some of the most complex and challenging contracts. She served faithfully at GSA until her retirement, forming lifelong friendships and leaving a lasting impact on the way contract services were handled and negotiated. Ricee’s greatest gifts were her love for God and her service to others. She always made room in her home to feed, shelter, and care for anyone in need. Her home was a beacon of love, comfort, and refuge. Her faith was unwavering, and her devotion to God guided every aspect of her life. In a book she lovingly wrote to her children and grandchildren, Ricee shared these words of wisdom: “Being a true believer in God is not easy; it is hard being a Christian. For as true believers, we are all sick and in need of a physician, and that physician is none other than Jesus the Christ.” Preceded in Death / Survived By Clarice “Ricee” Jones Chandler was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Mildred “Sissy” Jones and Charles “Nink” Jones, Sr.; her sisters, Rita, Berdella, Estelle, Esther, and Valerie Jones; her brothers, Arthur and Bob Jones; her favorite aunt, Evelyn “Louise” Willis; and her devoted husband, Austin “Buck” Chandler, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving children, Austin “Pumpkin” Chandler, Jr.; Stephanie “Steppie Ann” Chandler-Green; Erick “Boo” Chandler; and Ericka “Honna” Chandler, as well as Bernard “Bernie” Jones and Alfreda “Fifi” Givens. She is also survived by her sister, Verlette Bailey (Louis), and her brother, Charles “Beaver” Jones. Ricee leaves to mourn her cherished grandchildren: Kenesha “Maggie” Dudley (Aaron); Demetri “Meme” Banks (Morgan); Dorian “Dory” Chandler-Hall; Alana “Lala” Adams Chandler; and Shania “Nia” Adams Chandler. She was further blessed with great-grandchildren: Braelyn “Bey Bey” Frempong; Tyler “Poppa” Addison; Paxtyn “Paxie” Addison; and Orion Chandler. She also leaves behind two close and dear friends, Yosie Scott and Marie Quander, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and close family friends.
